Winter operation begins
With the arrival of November, we are saying goodbye to regular tours at Nemilkov Castle – they will return in May. However, winter visits are still possible by prior arrangement. The exceptions will be November 17 and the Christmas holidays, when tours will be available without the need for reservations. Follow us for the latest information!
Nemilkov Castle was a surprise. It even has a mysterious hiding place where the owners hid their son.
Nemilkov Castle in the Klatovy region is an example of enthusiastic cultural heritage preservation. Alena Hesounová discovered it during her summer travels and describes her visit with a personal tour by the owner, a mysterious hiding place in the bedroom, and the fascinating history of the Schreiner family. Today, the castle is coming back to life thanks to the dedication of the Kaplan family.
The restoration of Nemilkov Castle changed the lives of its new owners
Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Kaplan, Nemilkov Castle in the Klatovy region is literally rising from the ashes. After purchasing it in 2016, they left Prague, sold everything, and invested their savings into saving the monument. Today, most of the premises have been repaired and the castle is open to the public. Their story is part of the Czech Radio series "Second Wind – New Life for Monuments."
Mr. and Mrs. Mencl
Václav and Dobroslava Mencl – husband and wife, historians and preservationists – spent the last years of their lives at Nemilkov Castle, where they left a lasting mark. Their works, such as Folk Architecture in Czechoslovakia and Czech Castles, continue to shape our care for historical monuments to this day. In 2024, a memorial plaque was ceremoniously unveiled at the castle in their honor.
Renovation of the dance hall begins
In the Baroque ballroom of Nemilkov Castle, restorers are currently uncovering original roses hidden beneath layers of newer paint. Anyone who contributes to the restoration can have their own rose in the hall as a permanent reminder of their support. The restoration is open to the public and will culminate in a concert on the second Saturday in July.
