Our names are Markéta and Michal Kaplan. We have been through a lot together, but this life-changing event overshadowed everything else. When we first entered the dilapidated building with a leaky roof, damp walls, and layers of dust, something changed. We both fell under its spell. We sold what we could and moved from the city to an abandoned castle in Pošumaví. It was a leap into the unknown. Some call it an adventure, others call it suicide. Both are probably true.
Today, the castle is no longer just a dilapidated monument. It is our home, an open project, and a never-ending story.
Markéta's enthusiasm drives not only the castle, but also its surroundings. After her tour, you may not remember any dates, but you will certainly take away the energy and enthusiasm that she radiates. "My husband went crazy. He decided that we had to save some kind of monument." Markéta usually begins her tours with these words. And it's true, it was Michal who came up with the idea. Everyone around them thought he was crazy. They had a beautiful apartment in Prague, family, and friends. Markéta resisted at first; her world was swimming pools and dreams of Olympic medals. And yet, one day, a decision was made that turned their lives upside down. Today, Michal loves spending time restoring the castle. With tireless patience, he discovers forgotten treasures. Almost everything you see in the original castle was literally dug out of the remains of the past.
